Simple prep to help your session run smoothly.

As someone who gets stressed when it's time to get my pictures taken, I try my very best to make sure my clients are ready to rock and roll when their session date comes around. This includes sending them an extensive prep and styling guide that helps them choose their outfits, and includes important tips and tricks for their session day. Often times, sessions go smoothly and clients never have to bust out any of the items I've asked them to bring; other times, mishaps happen and we need supplies!

Like a boy scout, I like to be prepared, and I usually come to sessions with bug spray, a lint roller, hair ties and bobby pins in case we need them. However, as the client, it's a good idea to have a bring some back up items to your session just in case- better safe than sorry! Here are just a few things that may come in handy during your shoot:

  • backup clothing for kiddos in case they get dirty (might include a different shirt, pants, dress, tights, etc)
  • outfit changes (if applicable to your session)
  • snacks and water (no one wants to be hangry while having their picture taken)
  • candy/toys to bribe kids with
  • touch up makeup/hairspray/brush or comb/hair ties + bobby pins
  • baby wipes for makeup smudges, snotty noses, dirt and more
  • bug spray (esp. if we will be near water or its muggy out)
  • comfy shoes (if you're wearing heels; we may walk a bit)
  • props- I prefer to keep props to a minimum, but there might be a special stuffed animal, ultrasound image, toy, etc. that you want incorporated into your shoot
  • lint roller
  • safety pins
  • form of payment (cash, check, Venmo)

These are just some of the things I've found we needed and/or used during sessions in my experience! I've definitely had to pull back hair, pin a dress, and remove lint from sweaters! These little adjustments can make all the difference in your images!
