How many images will I receive? Can I get a copy of ALL the images you shoot?
Images delivered are dependent on shoot booked. Please see individual session information for estimated images delivered.*
Images delivered will be the BEST of the bunch- I spend a lot of time sorting through your session's images and editing the ones that look the best. This is why you've hired me- to capture the best possible looks. I do not release unedited images to clients- this would be like artists selling half finished artwork.
Please note: There are a multitude of factors that contribute to a shoot that may affect how many images you receive. I do my best to deliver the highest quality work and the amount of images listed for each session. I also cannot guarantee that specific poses/images will be included in your final gallery.
What should I wear?
I send each client a copy of my Session Prep Guide to help you choose your looks. Here are some of my basic tips:
You'll want to avoid "matching" outfits and shoot for a more coordinated look with variety. Avoid having everyone in the same color top or same color bottom.
Stick to neutral colors like grey, tan, black, brown, cream, olive, denim and maybe a pop of color or two. A mix of tones adds depth to your images.
Avoid bright colors as they can reflect light onto the skin and make skin appear discolored; avoid too much print (especially stripes) as they can look distorted in images.
little plaid, check, floral or polka dot is okay!
Add layers: a collared shirt under a sweater, a jacket or vest over a dress, shirt or tank can add dimension and interest to your look. Texture is great too!
Accessorize: jewlery, belts, hats, flower crowns. scarves, etc. can really add interest to your images. Guys- suspenders, bow ties, fun socks, belts, watches, etc can really elevate a look!
Ladies: a little extra time on hair and makeup will make you look your best. I even recommend professional hair and makeup if you can make it happen! Get your nails done or give yourself a mani; it seems small, but can make a big difference! It's fun to have a little pampering, too!
Unless you're going for a glam look, I always tell my clients to style themselves casually, but in a more dressed up version of their everyday style. Avoid tennis shoes, flip flops, logo tees, athletic wear, etc.
**Choose clothes you feel comfortable in- if you're not confident in your clothes, or they don't fit right, it will show in your photos!
Where will my shoot take place?
I love to chat with each client to discuss their vision for their session! Different clients have different vibe goals, and I love that! I have 5 wooded acres in Northeastern Shelby County as an option, and know of many beautiful spots in central Indiana, depending on what you're looking for. You can also chose a spot yourself*- many of my clients have introduced me to some of my favorite shooting locations!

*Please note that some parks have started requiring a paid permit for professional photographers to shoot on their property. If a permit is required for the location you've chosen, the daily permit fee will be added to your session fee.
How should I prepare for my shoot?
Get a good night's rest, and book your session at the best time of day for your family (schedule around naps and mealtimes for kiddos to keep them happy). Make sure you're well hydrated, and eat a light meal so you've got some energy (don't feast before your session though!).
If kids are involved, bring some snacks and a favorite toy or stuffed animal for bribery :) If your kiddo is particularly shy, I would plan to arrive to our shoot location a few minutes early, to let them walk around and get acquainted with the area and get them warmed up.
Talk to your kids about the photoshoot. Sometimes, kids get anxious when you're going somewhere new and meeting someone they don't know. Talk it up, make it sound like it's going to be so much fun, and get them pumped to come and hang out with me!
Bring supplies in case you need to touch up- baby wipes, hairbrush, lint roller, bobby pins, etc. I usually have some of this stuff on hand, but it never hurts to be prepared!
Do you have a studio? Can we shoot indoors if the weather is bad?
I do not currently have a studio (dreaming of one in the future). I specialize in natural light photography, which is best accomplished outdoors. We can potentially do photos inside your home, if you have lots of natural light & windows.
Newborn shoots are shot on location in your home IF you have a room with good light. We'll choose a room in your house for the session based on lighting (usually your bedroom or baby's room). If newborn clients do not have good lighting in their homes, they have the option to come to me.
If the weather is bad on the day of your shoot, I will work with you to reschedule or coordinate another option.
How does your travel fee work?
For all sessions and packages, I am available to travel within 50 miles of 46176 zip code. If your session/event will take place further away, a travel fee will be assessed on a per mile basis, at a rate of $1 per mile beyond 50 each way.
Mini-sessions must take place within the 46176 zip code.
Do you supply props for photo shoots?
I take a photojournalistic approach to photography, meaning I enjoy capturing real moments in your life that aren't overly staged.
My newborn/baby sessions are lifestyle sessions, so I won't do a ton of styled images or elaborate set ups. I do bring wraps, headwear and a few props to each newborn session so we can capture a few styled images.
You're welcome to have props available for use in your shoot if desired, and it's encouraged for senior sessions (athletic gear, instruments, etc).
What if I want more time, outfit changes, or have additional family members I want in the pictures?
Please contact me to discuss your photography needs- I'll be happy to come up with a custom price for you based on what you're looking for.
Do I have to order prints through you?
All of your edited images will be delivered to you via online gallery. You'll be able to download, save, and print your images and order photo products as you wish. I do have a print shop set up within your image gallery that is easy to use and will provide you with high quality, professional prints and products. I do recommend ordering prints through the print shop. I do not recommend printing images at places like Walmart or CVS; their printers may not be properly calibrated, resulting in lower quality prints. It is also recommended that IF you choose your own lab for printing your images, you should download your files to a desktop or laptop and order them that way, versus ordering from a smartphone. Some clients have had download quality issues when downloading to their phones for printing.
**I am not responsible for poor quality images or products ordered through non-professional print labs.
How long will it take for me to receive my images?
I prefer not to guarantee delivery by a certain time, as I want to make sure you get the best images possible. I make every effort to deliver all sessions within 3 weeks of the shoot date, while weddings may take closer to to 4-6 weeks.
Why does professional photography cost so much?
This is a questions I've discussed at length with many people over the years. In the client's eyes, I'm only working during the time I shoot your images.
However, for most sessions, I spend a few hours editing your images, time uploading and posting sneak peeks, and emailing you your gallery for download. Weddings can take an entire 40 hour work week to sort and edit images!
Also, there are so many back-end costs that no one sees or thinks about. Equipment upgrades and maintinence, professional development and education expenses, software and tech subscriptions or fees and more! While it may seem like I make a a huge hourly wage, once expenses are taken out and money is set aside for me to pay my taxes, my profit is fairly average!
My hope is always that my clients see the value of my work- timeless memories and images that capture you and your family's authentic selves.
